What is it about?
Motif models describe patterns in DNA sequences that have functional significance and will tend to be conserved over evolutionary time. This paper investigates the use of phylogenetic information (through alignment of DNA sequences) in order to improve the statistical power of techniques for recognising these motifs.

Why is it important?
Finding patterns in DNA that are functionally important is critical for the understanding of the genome.
