What is it about?
The indie video game industry appears exciting and thrilling from the outside. The blend of cutting edge technology, a creative personalities, and an us versus them mindset seems a cyber Wild West. It is envious world where creative inspiration and technical talent are given free reign to pursue whatever their imagination can dream. But what is it really like to work in this kind of space? This book provides a behind scenes look at the drama and struggle of ten indie video game developers housed in a coworking space in the UK.

Why is it important?
The narrative is frame by six critical events: the introduction of newcomers, change in organizational rules, departure of a dominant social actor, self-inflicted crisis, introduction of a powerful manager, and external crisis. The book uses a process view (connecting before, during, and after) to show how events can drag or lift creative development. The book is not a simple record of success stories or failure statistics. It analyses the organizational and entrepreneurial aspects of the incubator and accelerator models on indie video game development and start-ups in general.
Perspectives
At its core, the book attempts to give an in-depth, dramatic, and measured picture of what it is to work in the indie video game industry. There are also plenty of practical lessons for those readers that want to learn something. (You can always just enjoy the dramatic ride.)
