What is it about?

This looks at why one mother succeeded in raising her cub where the other one failed. By taking behaviour and vocalisations of both mother and cub into account as well as interpreting what these mean, and observing how the mothers and cubs reacted.

Why is it important?

Due to the denning process of polar bears in the wild it is difficult to observe them in the den without disturbing them. This project, done in a zoo, offers insight to the goings on within the den and introduces vocalisations that have not been studied a lot if at all.
