What is it about?

An imidazole derived dimine ligand was shown to form manganese, cobalt and nickel complexes in three independent manners. The ligand underwent intra-molecular C-N bond formation to form manganese complex, while with cobalt ion it formed complex through deprotonation, but with nickel as it is.

A biologically related ligand, showing varieties of reaction by changing metal ion is worthy to understand many other related systems and to explore synthetic chemistry.

Perspectives

Related ligand systems and their complexes would be worth to explore as it is or by hydrogenating the double bonds to make different model complexes for oxidation and hydrolytic reactions.
