What is it about?

This paper describes a Citizen Science project that involved school children from Leicester, Birmingham and Manchester. All of the participants made measurements using home-made rain gauges, which were then used to inform on the precipitation that was present in each of these cities over a 6-week period.

Why is it important?

This work is important because it demonstrates how effective a relatively small scale, and low-cost citizen science project can be. The results from tis study were able to provide a more spatially dense network of measurements than what was available from the UK Met Office at that time.
