What is it about?

Social cognition researchers study how people understand their social worlds. Representations of persons and of social relationships form the basic elements of social cognition. We review research on the formation and use of these representations. In particular, we review specific strategies for inferring the psychological qualities of other people. We consider both automatic processes as well as more thoughtful and deliberative ones. We also consider how interpersonal relationships scaffold our social impressions.
