What is it about?
Chlorine dioxide is an inorganic substance that kills germs very effectively. It is often used as a water disinfectant and we are trying to introduce it as an oral disinfectant that can also be used on farm animals in a highly purified form. Chlorine dioxide solution was added to the swine intestinal cell cultures, and the expression of selected gene markers were measured.

Why is it important?
The levels of certain inflammatory mediators were determined to assess the role of chlorine dioxide in inflammatory processes. In addition, we measured the gene expression of important drug metabolizing enzymes to determine whether it plays a role in drug interactions. Specifying the mechanism of action and possible side effects of newly introduced agents in animals is always crucial.
Perspectives
Experiments with new substances are always exciting, and exploring their effects in eukaryotic cells will pave the way for future studies. Describing of the methods and summarizing the results in the form of a scientific article give meaning to the studies. After all, the main goal of the research is to share our results with the public.
