What is it about?

Hernias are the passage of an organ or tissue through the natural or acquired opening. Even though a few hernias can be treated by non-surgical means, the most effective means is herniorrhaphy. However, the repair of the hernia should be managed early before the hernia ring becomes wide and hernia contents increase in number from the nearby structure and organs. Even the repair needs experience and the use of a novel approach. Thus, the work aimed to describe the successful surgical management of ventrolateral hernia in two sheep.

Why is it important?

A hernia is one of the common clinical presentations in animals. However, most veterinarians are afraid and even fail to perform the surgical repair and most patients die and are even recommended for culling. This leads to the loss of valuable breeds and decreased production besides a direct loss. Thus, in this work, we modified and clearly described the surgical repair of ventrolateral hernia in sheep which can be insight and probably a frame of reference for similar cases.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long-standing collaborations. This article also leads to the successful surgical management of hernias and saves the lives of animals.
