What is it about?

Left ventricular (LV) torsion is an important aspect of the cardiac mechanics and fundamental to normal ventricular function. The proposed methodology for evaluation of perinatal LV torsional mechanics provides a novel approach for the characterisation of myocardial performance. The utility of the specific pattern of LV twist assessment as a diagnostic marker of subclinical changes in fetal and neonatal myocardial performance might be a promising novel tool for monitoring these babies and needs further investigation in normal and pathological pregnancies.
