What is it about?
Insufflation of the uterus with CO2 has been considered as potentially unsafe because it may cause fetal acidemia. However, this is solely based on animal experiments and no human data exist. We report blood gas studies during fetal surgery performed under CO2 insufflation. These are the first human data that disprove that fetal surgery performed under CO2 insufflation leads to acidosis.
