This teaching tip outlines three creative strategies for helping students craft vivid detail related to the five senses in their creative nonfiction and fiction writing. Though the article is geared towards upper elementary school students, the strategies are relevant for older learners as well.

This article is important because crafting detail is one of the hardest task for student writers to understand and create. This article features strategies to not only teach crafting detail, but to get students excited about the revision process.

Perspectives

This piece came from my own experiences as a middle school writing teacher and struggle to get students to craft vivid detail in their writing. I set to research and devise strategies to make this activity fun and engaging for students of all ages.
