What is it about?
This paper explains selecting the most suitable organic material for soil amendment based on a multi-criteria assessment in post-mining reclamation. The organic material amendment is a soil rehabilitation method often proposed to increase the soil quality of degraded land, one of which is ex-mine land. The assessment is Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) with the expert choice concept. Criteria to be analyzed are availability, cost, usability, ease of application, and side effects. At the same time, the alternatives are oil palm empty fruit bunch compost, rice husk charcoal, cattle manure, and guano.

Why is it important?
Reclamation of ex-mining land is a complex activity because it involves a large area, lasts for a long time, and costs a lot. On the other hand, every organic material has distinctive characteristics affecting its effectiveness in improving soil quality, price, supply easiness, application difficulties, and side effects. A comprehensive analysis of both technical and managerial aspects will give the proper consideration to decide the best suit organic material. The judgment of qualified experts combined with the AHP method can minimize biased decisions. The best-suited organic material will ensure sustainability and give optimum results in mine reclamation.
