Why is it important?
Developing intercultural nonverbal communication competence is vital for TESOL teachers to build mutual understanding, reduce misinterpretation, and foster respectful interactions in diverse cultural settings, especially in globalized workplaces and multicultural societies.
Perspectives
From a personal perspective, I feel that it is essnetial for me to develop intercultural nonverbal communication competence as a TESOL teacher. It has helped me connect more deeply with students from diverse backgrounds, interpret their cues more accurately, and respond with greater empathy. Understanding their nonverbal interactionacross cultures has not only improved classroom communication but also fostered a more inclusive and respectful teaching and learning environment. It has made me more aware of my own cultural assumptions and more adaptable in my teaching practices, thus supporting student learning.
