What is it about?

In the presented study, we applied mesenchymal stem cells combined with conventional anti-tuberculosis therapy for repair fibrosis tissue of bladder as result tuberculosis. MSCs were labeled with superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles for subsequent visualization of cells in repair bladder tissue thus indicating the role of the stem cells in the bladder regeneration.

Why is it important?

Bladder TB is often a complication of kidney TB, which results in the later stages of disease progression in the microcystitis and full obliteration that indicates the need for cystectomy with following enteroplasty. The results of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of the application of the MSCs for treating the consequences of bladder tuberculosis.

Perspectives

The obtained data indicate the feasibility of adjuvant cell therapy in the treatment of bladder tuberculosis that could be translated into further clinical trials.
