What is it about?

The study look at what makes collaborative gameplay possible. While many studies report rather broadly on players collaborating as they play, we look at the specific micro-interactions that enable cooperation and conflict to exist within games.

Why is it important?

Our study offers detailed analysis of video-recorded gameplay and a generalizable theory of coordinated action, which other scholars can use and develop to make sense of the moment-by-moment actions that players engage in, whether in non-competitive or competitive (for example, eSports) contexts.

Perspectives

The study takes a symbolic interactionist approach to analyze the moment-by-moment interactions that go on in video games. This approach enables an understanding of the basis upon which all collaborative gameplay exists.
