What is it about?
The paper describes the way to measure the displacements caused by subsidence; these settlements are then used to train and verify the geotechnical model that is able to simulate the interaction between the structure and the subsoil. Such a knowledge is essential for the protection and the safeguard of historical structures that are hardly describable by simple numerical models because affected by several deformations (occurred in the past as a results of the construction history, earthquakes and so on).

Why is it important?
The importance of the research lies in developing a rigorous methodology able to provide reliable results. When the safety of historic scructures is involved, the reliability of results, enabling a successful decision-making process, is a crucial points. Reliable results comes from rigorous approaches and deep know-how.
