What is it about?

This is an article looking back on three years of appendix ultrasound studies performed at a children's hospital in Brisbane, Australia, between 2008-2010. The ultrasound results were compared with the results of any operations that might have been performed on the same children that were scanned with ultrasound to compare the results.

Why is it important?

In order to determine how well an examination is performed and to identify potential areas of improvement, it's necessary to look back at historical performance and levels of accuracy. This study showed that the performance at this hospital over the study period was similar to many international studies, but could still be improved.
