What is it about?

The paper shows how to gain 3 dBs by adding two delayed signals already available for time diversity, when this diversity technique is not effective. This gain is almost free, it is only required to memorize the two analogue signals, not the digital ones.

Why is it important?

A 3 dBs gain today is out-of-reach of actual forward error-correcting codes, which are close to Shannon's limit. Therefore, it is very useful, at a very small cost.

Perspectives

The technology for gaining 3 dBs in time diversity is already available. After fully developping time diversity technology, the 3 dBs gain will be readliy obtainable.
