What is it about?
We introduced a new lifetime distribution with increasing, decreasing and bathtub-shaped failure rates. The mathematical properties of the proposed distribution are studied. We use the method of maximum likelihood for estimating the model parameters and reliability characteristics. We compared the traditional estimators with Bayes estimators. We demonstrated the superiority of the proposed distribution by fitting two real reliability data sets well-known from references.

Why is it important?
The new distribution has the flexibility and diversity of shapes of distribution as well as failure rate function and has been demonstrated to be better than many existing distributions for fitting to real reliability data sets.
Perspectives
Statistical inference of the new additive Chen-Weibull distribution with many parameters is easy and feasible using the power of modern computational methods as, for example, the cross-entropy method for optimization, MCMC simulation methods such as Hamiltonian Monte Carlo method, resampling method like bootstrapping, etc.
