What is it about?
The nontraditional Coriolis terms turn upward motion westward and turn westward motion downward. Omitting the nontraditional Coriolis terms directly yields errors in the height of radiosonde-observed pressure levels that is about 5% of the height variability in the tropical atmosphere.

Why is it important?
Computer models simulating atmospheric motion are important in weather and climate prediction, but most of the current models omit the nontraditional Coriolis terms. This study promotes restoring the nontraditional Coriolis terms to improve weather and climate prediction.
