What is it about?

Cloud characterization is a important tool in order to predict the behavior of atmospheric systems. In this study we use a morphological parameter, fractal dimension, that is also a manifestation of the process inside the cloud. We used for that a big amount of satellite images.

Why is it important?

We used a morphological parameter, fractal dimension, for the study of different cloud properties. It could be used for identification tools that are very useful. Some of the possible uses for that are the possible prediction of cloud precipitation and lifetime. This also brings some information of the predominating meteorological process inside each family.

Perspectives

This study has a lot of different perspectives. One of them is that the problem of cloud fractal dimension could be studied with a bigger amount of data, specially the case of different families of clouds. Our article treats only with two families, then more families could be added to the study and, knowing that, acquire a better understanding of the process inside the clouds. The effect of 2D and 3D turbulence could be then studied with higher precision.
