What is it about?

Ge nanocrystals are investigated for applications in nonvolatile memories or as silicon-technology compatible light emitters. A key to establish these applications seems to be embedding the Ge nanocrystals in matrices, that are not crystalline, but still amorphous. We review different methods to achieve this goal, together with the particular properties of the resulting material.
