What is it about?

Lifetime of excess carriers in solar cells is an important metric. It affects the open circuit voltage which governs the efficiency of solar cells. It is a direct technique which gives information of the processes that go on inside the solar cell. The equipment needed to do the measurement is very basic, available even in engineering colleges.

Why is it important?

We show the application of this measurement technique to silicon based solar cells as well as CIGS solar cells. This work shows the correct basis for a measurement to qualify as a lifetime. This is done by differentiating it with response time, a more fundamental unit of measurement.

Perspectives

This work is very significant for me as it established collaboration with various research groups across the world. It was satisfying to work from scratch and come out with a very simple , yet effective technique for the research groups across the world.
