What is it about?

This work presents a spray format deposition of the MALDI matrix 2,5-DHB, to ensure that it can be used for high quality automated mass measurement and fragmentation of phosphopeptides.

Why is it important?

This is important as 2,5-DHB is well suited to phosphopeptide measurement, but typically forms large needle-like crystals when prepared on a sample support. These needles impact mass accuracy and prevent automated measurement due to the formation of signal "sweet spots". By spraying the matrix, growth of large DHB needles is prevented and sweet spot formation is reduced.
