What is it about?

Breast implants have been inserted approximately more than 18 000 000 times worldwide. Nevertheless the technical aspects of implant failure and safety precautions from the material side have not been thoroughly analyzed up to now. For the first time we have developed a new and standardized protocol to test material properties of breast implants.

Why is it important?

This is one of the first papers to describe a standardized test protocol from the material science side in order to define reasons for the failure of breast implants. Thorough material tests comparable to tes procedures from the manufacturing industry have not been performed in a similar manner to brest implants.

Perspectives

In future this groundbreaking Investigation to standardize material components and material strength will be the Basis for future breast implant material development.
