What is it about?
Adding clay or soil into polymers have been a great interest to generate materials with advanced properties. Some benefits include enhanced heat and flame resistance, improved barrier to gases, mechanical properties and reduced cost at a great value addition. This paper examines a new way to generate clay filled nylon from a synthesis route,

Why is it important?
Our publication provided proof-of-concept for successful clay addition into the polymer utilizing the synthesis route. More importantly it achieves good dispersion of non-modified clay as needed for property improvement . Even though the modifiers are added to achieve compatibility with the polymer, degradation through heat processing deteriorate dispersion.
