What is it about?

This study gives evidence to find effects on large bowel resection on PYY concentrations, bowel fermentation and appetite levels. Indirectly it also provides evidence for the functions of the large bowel.

Why is it important?

since obesity is a global condition and is associated with many life threatening conditions a research of this nature which reduces hunger and explains the functions of large bowel related to appetite is important.

Perspectives

This is some thing new since we have observed the hunger levels, fullness in a total of 68 subjects who had undergone resections of parts of large bowel( colon + rectum) we had a control group of 90.So its interesting to observe their hunger and hormone ( PYY GLP1)levels.Although we know about the absorptive and motility functions of the large bowel we didn't know the functions related to appetite.Absence of parts of large bowel seem to reduce appetite implies that presence of it will increase appetite.
