What is it about?
This study focuses on a female adult skeleton from the necropolis of Bormio (North Italy), dating back to Middle Ages, which shows multiple metastatic bone lesions.

Why is it important?
Metastatic carcinoma is rare in archaeological literature also because is misdiagnosed, thus reducing the number of cases observed. in this reasearch an ancient tumour cases was discussed. in particular the authors have supposed that the individual suffered from a breast or lung cancer.
Perspectives
this exceptional finding improves the paleobiological literatur about the epidemiology of cancer in antiquity.
