Why is it important?
The Self-Management Assessment Scale helps identify challenges people with type 2 diabetes may face in managing their health. By guiding conversations between patients and nurses, it supports more personalized care and encourages collaboration, making it a useful tool for improving self-management in everyday practice.
Perspectives
As someone engaged in diabetes care, I see the development of the SMASc as an important step toward strengthening person-centered support. By helping nurses identify individual challenges in self-management, this tool has the potential to improve communication and empower people with type 2 diabetes to take a more active role in their care.
