Why is it important?

Nocturia is one of the most bothersome bladder symptoms and its effective treatment is still a challenge for physicians. Nocturia is an especially difficult symptom, with a profound impact on sleep quality, and knock-on physical and psychological health impacts. It leads to a high risk of falls and fractures in the elderly adults and increased mortality. Our study was the first to report the changes in the number of nocturnal urgency urinary incontinence episodes and voided volumes at night.

Perspectives

Intravesical Botox injection provides significant benefit for nocturia symptoms in OAB patients. Our results are applicable for women without nocturnal polyuria, and should prove useful when counseling patients about the risks and benefits of Botox.
