What is it about?
Chromosome separation need the assitance of tubulin organization. KIF1B plays role in transfer tubulin to the area where spindle formated. In female gamete, absence of KIF1B leads to abnormal spindle formation and subsequent chromosome separation failure, which will generate aneuploidy oocyte. Embryos fertilized by aneuploidy oocyte can not develop to term or gernerate babies with genetic disease.

Why is it important?
Normal embryos come from the combination of healthy parental gametes. Abnormal oocytes such as those with incorrect number of chromosomes can not generate healthy embryos. If this kind of embryos implanted in uterus, early abortion or deliver of babyies with heathy problem will occur. This paper examines if absence of KIF1B is one of the key factor that leads to production of aneuploidy oocytes.
