What is it about?

Partition coefficients are important parameters in drug development. We partitioned a variety of common drugs, taking 1H NMR spectra of both layers after partitioning. Analysis of the time domain data using CRAFT allowed us to accurately determine partition coefficients for these drugs, giving values that were in good agreement with those found in the literature.

Why is it important?

Partition coefficients, which are a a measure of lipophilicity, describe the absorption and permeation characteristics of candidates during drug development. Our method provides a new approach for the accurate quantitation of this important parameter which can be helpful in identifying undesirable characteristics during the drug development process.
