What is it about?
A UWB Filter is designed with high selectivity. Then a wide band monopole antenna has been designed. Finally the circular patch antenna was electromagnetically coupled to the Filter resulting in a highly selective UWB Filtenna.

Why is it important?
A conventional antenna can't provide a sharp roll-off factor. Thus, there are chances of adjacent frequency components being received by the antenna, which is undesired. This is avoided by cascading a suitable filter to the antenna. But this technique may create the problem of impedance mismatching, insertion loss etc. So a new method has been adopted where the filter and antenna are integrated into a single subsystem resulting in a Integrated Filter Antenna or Filtenna.
