What is it about?

This study derives a correction to correct the Beaufort estimated wind speeds explicitly for Tropical Indian Ocean (TIO) [30⁰E-100⁰E, 30⁰S-30⁰N] . Individual records from International Comprehensive Ocean - Atmosphere Dataset (ICOADS) and Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) unique data observed during the period 1985 to 2005 is used. The bias between anemometer measured wind speeds and Beaufort estimated wind speeds has reduced by a significant factor.

Why is it important?

Bias correction to the independent observed parameters like wind speed enables reduction of error in derived variables such as fluxes and thereby resulting in an accurate estimation of net heat flux.
