What is it about?

Fluid and/or pressure in the middle ear is usually caused by a malfunction of the tube that drains the ear into the back of the nose (Eustachian tube). This article compares the medical treatment of this condition to the opening of the Eustachian tube with a ballon showing the the latter is more effective.

Why is it important?

The treatment of the malfunction of the Eustachian tube with balloon dilation could result, in the majority of the cases, in the cure or improvement of this condition

Perspectives

Persistent opening malfunction of the Eustachian tube that fails medical treatment has been treated by putting a tube through the eardrum to drain the fluid or pressure from the middle ear. This newly FDA approved Eustachian tube dilation procedure could cure or improve the condition without the need to put a tube through the eardrum.
