What is it about?
The soaking of polymers: Amberlite XAD-7 and XAD-16 in water or acetone, followed by freezing in liquid nitrogen results in significant changes in their surface properties (texture and porosity). These modifications affect the explosive nitramines adsorption/desorption from aqueous samples in solid phase extraction.

Why is it important?
The modifications performed (soaking, freezing) allow to increase the recovery rates as compared with the initial adsorbents from 10 to 15%. As a result of the use of the salting-out procedure, a 2-3-fold increases in recoveries, e.g. up to a level of 72% was achieved. The results have been corroborated by swelling of the modified polymers and the occurrence of a process of an additional nitramine uptake by sorption.
