What is it about?

Since 8 years, we have been interesting our research on orchids, their chemistry and biological interest. Vanda teres (Papilionanthe teres) is a tropical orchid and its main constituents, vandaterosides I, II and III, showed an interest in slowing down the skin ageing process. We focused this study on the purification of the two most active secondary metabolites, vandaterosides I and II, by centrifugal partition chromatography. Combining gradient, dual and isocratic elution modes, we report the isolation of hundreds of mg of these high value-added molecules.

Why is it important?

We report the purification of glucosyloxybenzyl malate derivatives (vandaterosides) by centrifugal partition chromatography in few steps. This technique has been applied on these metabolites for the first time.

Perspectives

The method we developed can be easily used by cosmetic industry. Glucosyloxybenzyl malate derivatives can be found in other orchids and the method we report can be used for their purification.
