What is it about?

Are identified entrepreneurial characteristics important and play a part in SME success? Does a geographical location make any difference or play a part in enhancing identifiable entrepreneurial characteristics? Both of these questions are posed within this paper, and primary research is conducted amongst a remote/rural SME population to test these areas against actual businesses. This second paper builds upon the first which made a case for key entrepreneurial areas as a measure for business success.

Why is it important?

The paper builds upon primary research within the remote and rural SME community, carried within the first paper. The research tries to enhance how each entrepreneurial area helps to shape a business against the geographical location and its individual elements. Each of these elements can be associated with an entrepreneurial characteristic, which depended upon the business owner, is either enhanced, does not develop or is not present at all. This is reflected by the development and longevity of the business.

Perspectives

Researching this article has brought together many areas of both entrepreneurship and small business perspectives. I found it rewarding to help, direct and engage with these businesses so as to enable them to achieve their aims, along with those of their customers base. In doing so, both sectors have gained from this research project.
