What is it about?

We used Raman spectroscopy and a machine learning approach to find a model to evaluate the thermal maturity of organic matter, and compared it to a well-established method, vitrinite reflectance. The results are quite encouraging for the methodology to be extended to samples where no vitrinite reflectance measurement may be performed

Why is it important?

An approach that may allow understanding of the thermal evaluation of organic matter in exploration.

Perspectives

Extending the methodology for samples from different places, and improving the prediction of the method by increasing the vitrinite reflectance range to compare with Raman spectroscopy
