Why is it important?

Operating suites use high volumes of high risk medications and have one of the largest spends of medicines in hospitals. Pharmacists in Australia are not traditionally been associated with working within the operating suite. This article offers a perspective of a Queensland public hospital and some of the activities that pharmacists could undertake to improve medication safety and reduce costs.

Perspectives

There are a variety of areas in which pharmacists can improve medication management in the operating suite, even simply through a DUE/QUM audit cycle.
