What is it about?

Zika virus is spreading in latin American countries. I obtained the sequences of the NS5 gene from these countries and did a tree construction. The results are that they clustered together. On looking at the sequence a shared mutation was observed . this helped to classify the sequences into a Latin American genotype. However, two genotypes have been found to be circulating in latin america

Why is it important?

Paucity of information on epidemiology of Zika virus led me to do the analysis. If any mutation was responsible for the neurotropic behaviour of the virus. the virus has been assocaited with Guillianne barre syndrome and myelitis.

Perspectives

Zika from Latin American countries are spreading fast. Molecular epidemiology of the virus is not known. Through Bioinformatics analysis I have proposed a Latin American genotype of Zika (ZIKV). The reviewers have good comments on the analysis. Shared mutation across the NS5 gene across Colombia, Panama, Martinique and Mexico were found.
