What is it about?

Clearly defined practice standards and a systematic process for providing feedback on performance is vital in supporting radiation therapists to meet the demands of constantly changing practice. To provide this support, a radiation therapy-specific framework was developed. The goal was to reflect the complexity of practice and provide a clear measure of performance against them. This paper outlines the implementation of this framework into practice and discusses some lessons learned in the process.

Why is it important?

An evaluation of the framework showed the value to staff of receiving systematic and objective feedback and highlighted the need for a commitment to the development of skills.

Perspectives

By outlining the development process and lessons learned during implementation, we hope to inspire others to consider the value of providing a skills support system of this kind.
