What is it about?
It is a simple and efficient method used to synthesize acetyl and iodo derivatives of 4-hydroxy-6-phenyl-6H-pyrano[3,2-c]pyridine-2,5-diones and 4-hy-droxy-1-phenylpyridin-2(1H)-ones. Acetyl derivatives are obtained by refluxing in acetic acid in the presence of polyphosphoric acid, and the iodo derivatives are obtained by refluxing in a solution of I2 in dioxane.
