We show that echidnas are capable of learning the complex concept of same vs different, and that they can use an additional cue (pattern colour) to pick either same or different.

Why is it important?

This is the only study on complex learning in an echidna, a monotreme, typically considered to be a "primitive" mammal, but which actually has a very large brain for its body size.
