What is it about?
Protein kinase CK2 is a potent suppressor of apoptosis (cell death). Elevation of CK2 suppresses cell death and inhibition of CK2 induces cell death. This work identifies early rapid action on mitochondria affecting mitochondrial membrane potential and associated calcium flux changes as a mechanism by which CK2 downregulation leads to cell death.
