What is it about?
Sodium toxicity is one of the major issues for yeast, fungi and plant cell survival. The major function of the protein "Sodium proton antiporter" is to maintain the intracellular sodium level low. In absence of the atomic structure we have analyzed the yeast and fungal "Sodium proton antiporter" to find out the critical amino acids residues for its structure and function.

Why is it important?
The review summarizes the knowledge about yeast and fungal "Sodium proton antiporter" structure and function. These knowledge can be extended to develop highly active sodium extusion system and as a major salt tolerant protein in plant, the system can be used to develop salt resistant crops.
Perspectives
Writing this review is a great pleasure. It allowed me to understand the function and property of various membrane transporters. This review surely will provide a platform to better understand this particular protein in yeast, fungi and plant.
