What is it about?

This research introduces the first advantage of the intensity-curvature concept which is that of being able to create high pass filters from model polynomial functions fitted to image data. Application in MRI show that the ICF based high pass filters can detect vessels in MRI.

Why is it important?

It is the initiation of the description of the features of the intensity-curvature functional (ICF). The ICF is shown to be an image space high pass filter, and in later research: https://doi.org/10.1002/hf2.10031 the ICF is shown to be also a k-space filter. Image space and k-space ICF based filtering helps vessels visualization in MRI.

Perspectives

The work was developed to make an academic exercise comprising of disciplines of computer science, applied mathematics and signal processing.
