What is it about?
Obstetric fistula (leading to leakage of urine or feces through the vagina) is a common preventable complication of pregnancy often caused by prolonged obstructed labor. Management often focuses on surgical repair without much attention on how the condition affects the sexual life of the women. This study investigated the sexual activities of married women who had successful fistula surgery.

Why is it important?
The study made important discoveries about the sexual problems faced by the women after the leakage of urine and feces had been stopped. The findings encourage caregivers to include management of sexual difficulties in the rehabilitation program for obstetric fistula patients
Perspectives
The opportunity to co-author this work gave me a great opportunity to personally appreciate the difficulties these women go through after surgery as they return to normal life. As caregivers, we should care also about the life of the victims of obstetric fistula after the hospital discharge and include as part of the rehabilitation program a proper guide to the couple on their sexual life.
