What is it about?
In this paper, a new method for estimating the stage-discharge in straight smooth hydraulic sections are investigated. The method presented is based on the concept of isovel contours in hydraulic sections.

Why is it important?
Previous methods require calibration of their parameters or have only the efficiency in sections with a specific geometry. While the present method only needs to the information of discharge at a known level.
Perspectives
I hope the development of the method presented in this paper will lead to a comprehensive and simple approach to the estimation of discharges in the natural rivers.
