What is it about?

Blood transfusions cause rare but serious complications. Therefore, in order to perform blood transfusion at home, it is an issue to deal with the onset of complications. By remotely monitoring the vital signs of patients at home in real time, the onset of complications can be detected at an early stage, and the safety of home blood transfusion may be improved.

Why is it important?

There has never been a report of remote real-time monitoring of vital signs during home transfusion. Vital signs may be noisy due to body movements or device conditions, so abnormal values may not directly represent the patient's condition. It was suggested that abnormalities in multiple vital signs could be associated with true complications.

Perspectives

Demand for home medical care is expected to increase in areas where the aging society is advancing. For patients with blood disorders, the ability to carry out safe home transfusions is a great advantage. By writing this article, I hope to show that information technology has the potential to contribute to various home medical care.
